CRIMINAL LAW

We want to give you a fighting chance at your trial because everyone deserves proper representation.

What Is It?

Criminal law concerns the system of legal rules that define what conduct is classified as a crime and how the government may prosecute individuals that commit crimes. Federal, state, and local governments all have penal codes that explain the specific crimes that they prohibit and the punishments that criminals may face. Individuals who violate federal, state, and local laws may face fines, probation, or incarceration. Lawsuits against criminals are initiated by prosecuting attorneys who act on behalf of the government to enforce the law.

What Does It Cover?

A crime is any act or omission of an act in violation of a law forbidding or commanding it. Most crimes are defined by statute, and they vary tremendously across different states and counties. Although there are many different kinds of crimes, criminal acts can generally be divided into five primary categories: crimes against a person, crimes against property, inchoate crimes, statutory crimes, and financial crimes.

WE SPECIALIZE IN THE FOLLOWING

  • U.S. citizens can petition to bring certain family members to the United States. With some limitations, citizens can typically petition to bring their spouse, parents, siblings, and children. Lawful permanent residents can petition to bring their spouses and children. There are a number of forms that you may need to use for a family-based immigration petition.

  • As a permanent resident (Green Card holder), you have the right to be able to live permanently in the United States (provided you do not commit any actions that would make you removable under immigration law). This will also allow you to be protected by all laws of the United States, your state of residence as well as local jurisdictions.

  • There are several different categories including categories for priority workers, skilled workers and investors. An employer needs to file paperwork as well. There are special categories to be aware of. For example, Afghan and Iraqi nationals that have worked on behalf of the United States government can receive a visa in this category in certain situations.
